U.S. 40 Small Structure Replacement over Lick Creek
Indianapolis, Indiana
This bridge reconstruction project was part of the larger U.S. 40 (Washington Street) project on the east side of Indianapolis. The existing structure showed deterioration in the form of concrete spalling and pavement failure. Our purpose of the project was to replace the existing structure with a shorter structure and added channel work.
The new structure consists of a precast three-sided reinforced concrete culvert with a span of 26’ and a rise of 10’. The new structure was skewed four degrees to align with the enclosed box culvert to the north of the new structure. A cast-in-place transition structure was constructed at the north end of the new structure to tie into the existing 12’ x 4’ concrete box culvert.
This project included total structure replacement and pavement reconstruction. Also, new curb and gutter, sidewalks and storm sewer outfalls were included in the project.
